Airport Interim Open Space
The airplanes are cleared and the gates opened to the east 6-acre parcel of the future Airport Park Expansion site, allowing public access for unprogrammed recreational use like rollerblading, bicycle training for families and romantic sunset enjoyment. Be creative and enjoy the undeveloped space!
The Airport Interim Open Space is open daily, sunrise to sunset. It can be accessed from Airport Park's north parking lot adjacent to Donald Douglas Loop South.
The Director of the Community & Cultural Services Department may promulgate rules and regulations related to the use of this interim open space as necessary. The Director may authorize exceptions to implementing regulations for the purpose of coping with an emergency as defined in SMMC 2.16.020.
Hours of operation: Open daily, sunrise to sunset unless authorized by the City for permitted activities and/or licensed use.
Drones, kites, and model airplanes are not permitted.
Dogs must be restrained by a leash six feet or less in fixed length.
No motorized vehicles shall be operated on site with the exception of City vehicles and vehicles authorized by the City.
No person shall place or use umbrellas, canopies or pop-up tents with open sides, if over 400 square feet in area, unless authorized by the City.
No person shall place or use generators, unless authorized by the Fire Marshall.
No person shall use barbecues with the exception of City-authorized vehicles equipped with facilities for cooking and selling food.
No person shall post signs or handbills unless authorized by the City.
No person shall store athletic, sports or other equipment unless lawfully authorized to do so.
Space is subject to closure for permitted activities and/or licensed use as authorized by the City.
Users must abide by the decision of the City’s Public Service Officers or other authorized City personnel regarding the interpretation of these rules.
