June 26, 2018 – Civic Center Parking Study Released

The Civic Center Multipurpose Sports Field requires Coastal Commission approval of a coastal development permit (CDP) before construction can commence. Coastal Commission staff has stated that the City must submit extensive parking analysis with its CDP application to demonstrate the project’s compliance with the Coastal Act mandate that new development shall not negatively impact public coastal access. This information item provides Walker Parking Associates' findings and recommendations for managing parking resources with a reduced Civic Center Parking facility comprising at least 75 remaining surface lot spaces and a 735-space parking structure. The study results demonstrate that the City will be able to manage the facility, utilize available nearby City parking facilities, and meet the needs of Civic Center parking facility users.
