Commission to Revisit Buffer Park Name Recommendations and Consider Renaming Stewart Street Park

As directed by City Council, the Recreation & Parks Commission will review name recommendations for Buffer Park and consider renaming nearby Stewart Street Park next Thursday (see staff report). Community members are welcome to attend the meeting and give input during public comment. Input may also be emailed to ccs@smgov.net before the meeting.

Architectural Review Board Approves Buffer Park Design

The design for Buffer Park was presented to Santa Monica's Architectural Review Board for approval. After receiving a full briefing on the project, the ARB was asked to pay specific attention to built features like trellises, towers, and structures. With ARB's approval, the design will now move on to City Council for review.

Mia Lehrer + Associates has been selected to design a new park in the buffer zone between the future Expo maintenance yards and surrounding neighborhood. Fourteen proposals were received in response to the RFP. Mia Lehrer + Associates was chosen based on their experience with innovative public engagement processes and civic design, and their sensitive, insightful analysis of the project site.
